South Oxford

Kinsey Grandpont
Continuing on down St Aldates and over the river at Folly Bridge leads to the Abingdon Road. Off to the right is Grandpont,  narrow streets of terraced turn-of-the-century houses running parallel to the main road. Everywhere is either within walking distance or a short bus ride of the centre, so this is a popular area for budget conscious students as well as visitors.
Hinksey
The city's outdoor swimming pool is just off the Abingdon Road in Hinksey and there are walks across the railway track through fields to South Hinksey.
Iffley
A 5 minute bus ride from The High, Iffley is a village within the city with several shops, a hotel and a no-through road which ends at Iffley Lock on the river, from where there are some attractive walks. Also situated here is the beautiful twelfth century church of St Mary with signs of the Zodiac reliefs over the west doorway. It is one of the best preserved twelfth century village churches in the country.
Rose Hill
A further 5 minutes walk from Iffley, a 1930s area with some useful shops.

Haarlem

Haarlem Haarlem is located on the river Spaarne and is the capital of the North Holland province, it is the center of a district dedicated to flower growing and the export point for tulip bulbs. You will find here the Teylers Museum, the oldest public museum in the Netherlands that hosts a collection of fossils and the famous Haarlem specimen of Archaeopteryx, minerals, historical scientific instruments and works of art, and has everything exhibited in a 19th century manner. Also check The Patronaat, a large venue for live music, hosting dance nights on fridays and saturdays.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam_1 Amsterdam is a beautiful city in the Netherlands that has an impressive architecture, beautiful canals that criss cross the city, great for shopping, and friendly people. You can find something for every taste here, whether you like culture and history, partying, or just relaxing in a charming old European city. You can find historic city centers, with something like 7000 historic buildings, many old churches, like the Oude Kerk from 1306, and impressive modern architecture.

The Netherlands

Amsterdam_canal_trees The Netherlands, is one of the most densely populated countries on the world. Where ever you go, you are never far away from civilization. Cities can be crowded, especially in the Randstad area and much of the country is flat and at or below sea level, much of its countryside is dominated by highly industrialised farming, the Netherlands is a net exporter of food. Though there are some beautiful spots all over this country, expecting a countryside full of picturesque villages, tulips and windmills is not a good idea. The Netherlands geography is dominated by water features,this country is criss-crossed with canals and dikes.

Carnival of Binche

BincheCarnival of Binche is definitely an event not to be missed, celebrated on February every year, on 2007 will be from the 18th to the 20th. It starts with the parade of "Mam'selles" and fancy dress groups, followed by youth groups, Gilles traditional march and dance performance, midnight fireworks, incredible costumes and always a climate of joy.
You can also visit the Carnival and Mask Museum that has 25 rooms exhibition.

Gamla Uppsala

Gamla_uppsalaGamla Uppsala is a town and a parish, outside Uppsala, and was the seat of the Swedish kings of the House of Ynglings, before the Middle Ages, named in legends and Norse mythology. We can find the Royal Mounds, wich are 3 large barrows dated from the 5th and 6th Centuries, and are the location of royal burials.

Malmö

MalmoMalmö is located in the province of Scania, Sweden. It used to be a very industrialized town, but after decades of struggling with the post industrialism, it is focused now on education, culture and arts. It has many appealing parks and old buildings, along with a large variety of shops and stores. It is part of the transnational Oresund Region, crossed by the Oresund Bridge since 2000.

Oresund Bridge

Oeresund_bridge The Oresund Bridge is a combined two-track rail and four-lane road bridge across the Oresund strait.The bridge-tunnel is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe and connects the two metropolitan areas of the Oresund Region: the Danish capital of Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö. The international European route E20 runs across the bridge. This bridge has one of the longest cable-stayed main spans in the world, at 490 metres. The height of the highest pillar is 204 metres and the total length of the bridge is 7,845 metres, (approximately half the distance between the Swedish and Danish landmasses) and weights 82 million kilograms!  The rest of the distance is spanned by the artificial island Peberholm, followed by a tunnel on the Danish side. The tunnel is 4,050 m long, with 3,510 m long buried undersea, plus two 270 m gate tunnels. The two rail-tracks are beneath the four road lanes, and the bridge has a vertical clearance of 57 metres.

Corfu

Corfu Corfu is a Greek island in the Ionian Sea and it lies off the coast of Albania. It is part of the Corfu Prefecture and it is the principal town of the island is also named Corfu, or Kerkyra in Greek. Its name is connected to two powerful water symbols: Poseidon god of the sea and Asopos, an important Greek mainland river. According to myth, Poseidon fell in love with the beautiful nymph Korkyra, daughter of Asopos and the river nymph Metope, so he abducted her, as was the custom among gods of that era. Poseidon brought her to the hitherto unnamed island and, being in marital bliss, offered her name to the place. Together, they had a child called Phaiax, after whom the inhabitants of the island were named: Phaiakes, that was then transliterated via Latin to Phaeacians.

Bergen

Bergen Located in the county of Hordaland, Bergen is the second largest city in Norway, and situated between a group of mountains known collectively as de syv fjell ("the seven mountains"). Bergen is recognized as the unofficial capital of the region known as West Norway, and also recognized and marketed as the gateway city to the world famous fjords of Norway, becoming one of Europe's largest cruise ship ports of call. Being also the main base for the Royal Norwegian Navy, its international airport Flesland is the main heliport for the huge Norwegian North Sea oil and gas industry, from where thousands of offshore workers commute to their work places onboard the many oil and gas rigs and platforms. Bergen was one of nine European cities honoured with the title of European City of Culture in 2000.
