Museo Nestor

12 This modern, four-room building traces the stylistic development of the painter, Nestor Martín Fernández de la Torre, who was born in Gran Canaria and was obsessed his entire life with showing and encouraging the most typical characteristics of the Islands in illustrations, furniture, clothes and publicity posters. Playa de Las Alcaravaneras

Museo Canario

11_2 This museum, founded by Doctor Chil y Naranjo in the 19th century, offers a splendid survey of the history of the pre-Hispanic Canaries. Apart from the very complete library, which is no doubt the best in the archipelago, the visitor can admire ancient mummies of pre-Hispanic Islanders, little clay figures, models and representations of what life on the island was like before the arrival of the Spaniards and pieces of great archeaological value

Casa Museo de Colón

10_2 The Casa Museo de Colón commemorates explorer Christopher Columbus' visit to the islands on his way to "discover" the Americas, as well as the role that the Canary Islands played as a bridge between the New and Old Worlds. A reproduction of the navigator's shipboard cabin, complete with an exhibition of pre-Colombian ceramics inside are featured. A section of the museum is set aside for a fine arts exhibit. The building itself is a fine example of typical Canary Island architecture, with an impressive Gothic sandstone façade and lovely wooden balconies. Admission is free.

Piscina Sant Jordi

9_2 50-meter indoor pool in the middle of the Example, making it a very popular swimming hole. People come here to swim and to play waterpolo as well. Admission, a real bargain if one compares it to the prices of other swimming pools.

Kathedraal

11 The Cathedral of Our Lady's construction began in 1352, and ended in 1518, resulting in the largest Gothic church in the Netherlands. Learn its amazing history, from the 'iconoclastic fury' of 1566 that destroyed much of the interior, to the repairs that discovered beautiful murals beneath the whitewashed walls. The cathedral was furnished with renaissance, baroque, rococo and classical works of art which were plundered by French revolutionaries, though many were returned. The exceptional stained-glass windows are 16th and 17th century. Admission is EUR1 for adults; free for children.

Kunstgalerij Isabella Brant

10_6  30 years ago Hans Beers moved from Holland to Antwerp, the city he knew as a student and where he used to go out with his friends. He was looking for a house where he could live and work and found the ideal place in the Isabella Brantstraat. This narrow one-way street behind the Antwerp Court of Justice (Gerechtshof) is named after Rubens' first wife and very appropriate location for Beers' gallery and paintings repair studio. Hans Beers also exhibits paintings of his own: his favourite themes are war and peace, creation and evolution of mankind, the grandeur of the Cosmos! Entrance is free.

Hortamuseum

9_6 Art nouveau was practically born in Brussels. Victor Horta (1861-1947), considered Brussels' master of the art, designed this house and lived in it until 1919; there are as many as 300 such buildings in the city. It was restored in 1991 and is now a museum. Horta is known for his design of buildings using industrial materials such as metal and iron, manipulated to look organic and natural. Admission: Adults EUR5; students, 60+ EUR4; school groups EUR3.

Hellbrunn Palace

1 A visit to the famous trick fountains in the grounds of Hellbrunn Palace is a summer pleasure that you can't miss. With grottoes, fountains, floating sculptures and sudden spouts of water from behind bushes or trees, the Wasserspiele is a good example of the baroque fondness for extravagance. This magical fusion of water and light is extremely popular with kids of all ages, of course you will get wet.
